Watching this it reminds u how pacey Mac's serve used to be. It wasn't a big serve, but it was very pacey and accurate and made more effective by Mac's speed into net and brilliant net game

This match is the reason I play tennis. I was 12 years old. Never watched a tennis match before. During the match, I taught myself how to keep score and the basic rules of the game. I chose a side and I fell in love with the game- and Bjorn Borg. As soon as it was over, I asked my parents if I could play and take lessons. They said yes. I’ve been playing ever since. 08/15/24

So in ‘89 Borg had been retired for how long ? At least 5 years?? While McEnroe was still TOP10 in the world?? I’d expect a one sided BEAT DOWN especially since Mac had Borg figured out by 1982.

Maybe he was right, but he was also a very obdurate young man. Nowadays he is more euradite. That's nice, I guess.

As much as Mac had a persecution complex I do agree with him here, Boris was stalling and its why they now have the serve timer because players were just taking however long they wanted. Unfortunately for John because of his reputation and history with that umpire Boris didnt have to do a thing to automatically have the ump on his side and it showed.

Back when tennis was still a popular sport in the U.S. This tournament doesn’t even exist today, and even if it did, CBS would not be broadcasting it.
